Where are we? (February 8, 2012)
In case you’re just joining us, each Wednesday we post a vintage photo of Victoria for you to try and guess the locations. So far each photo has been correctly identified, and usually in pretty quick fashion. There are some smart Victoria people out there!
Let’s see if the streak continues! This week’s photo is undated, but going off the other photos I found, I’m guessing this was taken in the early to mid 1960′s. Do you know where we are today? (Click to enlarge)
Full credit goes to History Buff on this one. It is the Admiral Inn on Belleville Street. The addition and renovation completely changed the look of the building. Here’s how it looks today, courtesy Google Streetview.

Is that the motel on Dallas Road?
Good guess, but not correct! On a scale of cold to hot, I would say lukewarm.
I’ll start posting some more hints later if the location hasn’t been guessed yet. Keep thinking!
I’m drawing a blank. Is it residential?
I guess that can be hint #1, it is not residential.
Hint #2: There has been an addition to this building since this photo was taken.
Is this 50 Douglas St? It’s now a 2 toned grey building.
Nope, not 50 Douglas Street. Keep trying!
It looks like a Motel and if I were to guess 2 come to mind.
Out of the 2 that come to mind I will guess that it is the Admiral Motel on Belville before it was modernized
Wow, great job History Buff, you deserve your name! This is the Admiral Inn, now at 257 Belleville. When this photo was taken, the address was 616 Pendray. I’ll add the current photo of the building, courtesy Google Streetview.
Check back next week for out next instalment!
