Where are we? (April 4, 2012)

Last week’s photo was easily identified by one of our readers, Vincent, as the London Flats building on Broad Street. That photo and building had several identifying features that made it fairly easy to locate, as the building remains fairly unchanged since the photo was taken.

This week’s photo might prove a little more difficult, as there aren’t too many identifying features to provide hints as to the location. This photo was also undated, but based on where it was found, this was probably taken in the late 1960′s. Do you know where we are today? (click to enlarge)

History Buff and @brandscaping were both correct in identifying this as being in the 800 block of Fisgard. This actual building doesn’t exist anymore, so my best guess is this is now the current site of the apartment building at 844 Fisgard. Here’s a shot from Google Streetview which I think shows the probable location.

  1. History Buff says:

The only identifying feature in this shot is the building in the background. I think that building is the North Park building on North Park just off Quadra.
The two story building I have no idea what it is but maybe its gone and has been replaced by the Sandpiper building.
that’s my best guess seeing that no one else has attempted it so far

Correct. Back in the day, this was 860 Fisgard. That civic address doesn’t exist anymore, and neither does this building, so I’m guessing this is now the site of the Fisgard House apartment building at 844 Fisgard. The only other option giving that view of the apartment building behind would be 1701 Quadra, but that building is still sitting there and as far as I can tell has been around since the early 1900′s, so it can’t be that one.

As you mentioned, the building in the background is the apartment building at 875 North Park. After a little more digging, I found that that building was only built in 1975, so that makes this photo probably from the late 70′s, or early 80′s, not the 60′s like I previously thought. To backup that fact, the Fisgard House apartment building was only built in 1987, which means this building probably was around until the mid 80′s.
