Pumpkin Smash – compost your old Halloween pumpkins! (Nov 5-6, 2011)
Everyone loves Halloween, especially the jack-o-lanterns you see outside almost every house. The problem is wondering what to do with your pumpkins once Halloween has passed and they slowly start to collapse at your doorstep.
You could throw it in your trash, but here’s a better, more environmentally friendly way to get rid of those pumpkins – attend the 8th annual Pumpkin Smash on November 5th and 6th, put on by the Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre. Here is what to expect at the Pumpkin Smash:
Give your jack-o’-lantern a proper burial in our compost bins with fun games for the whole family! By donation to the Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre. Help us get to our goal of 100 tonnes of pumpkins composted since we began 8 years ago!
The Pumpkin Smash will be held at two different locations – Saturday, November 5th from 10.00am to 3.00pm at Cloverdale and Fairfield Thrifty Foods, and Sunday, November 6th from 10.00am to 3.00pm at Admirals Walk and Hillside Thrifty Foods. If you’re unable to attend at either of those locations over the weekend, there are 2 drop-off locations from November 1st to November 5th at:
A great way to be environmentally friendly in disposing of your old pumpkins, and you get to have some fun at the same time! We’ve mapped out the locations of both the drop offs and the Pumpkin Smash event sites below – take a look!
