Cadboro Bay Festival (August 12, 2012)
The 2012 Cadboro Bay Festival will feature several world class sand sculptors, including the reigning World sand sculpting champion, Damon Langlois. Collectively, this group of sculptors has sand sculpting titles in the Canadian, US, and World Championships, as well a record in the Guinness World book of records.
Their work has been featured across the world including Canada, the United States, Mexico, South Africa, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Australia and most recently Taiwan.
With over 50 tons of sand the sculptors will create 4 corporate sculptures as well as an exhibition piece titled ‘Desserted Island’. That’s not a spelling mistake! The exhibition sculpture will have large scale ‘desserts’, ice cream, pies and all things delicious.
The four corporate sculptures will be part of the new “People’s Choice” contest. Festival participants will have the opportunity to vote by ballot on the beach or visit the Saanich Sunfest website to enter and be eligible to win a 2 night stay at any Accent Inns.
Families are encourage to come and enjoy an afternoon at the picturesque Gyro Park featuring a wide variety of hands-on activities, bouncy castles, the pirate school, hand drumming workshops, information displays, arts & craft stations, and food and fun for the entire family.
Children 12 and under can pick up their treasure maps to enter into a draw for 10,000 pennies at the conclusion of the festival.
