Vista 18 Restaurant (Dinner Review)

| December 18, 2012 | 3 Comments

vista18During our recent stay at Chateau Victoria Hotel & Suites, we were graciously hosted at Vista 18, Victoria’s only rooftop dining experience, to indulge in delicious food while enjoying panoramic views of the downtown Victoria.

Vista 18 proudly offers a menu focusing on local seasonal ingredients, prepared in a way that allows the food to express its fresh natural flavours, all the while ensuring the sustainability of the local food movement.

While enjoying the view and our drinks, we were served a dish of crackers, fresh bread from Metchosin, accompanied with black olive whipped butter. The local bread was warm and deliciously fresh, and the crackers were full of flavour.

For an appetizer, we ordered the famous Vista 18 Signature Root Chips, served a lemon artichoke dip ($6). In one word, these light and crispy chips were amazing – a must have when dining at Vista 18.

For our main course, I ordered a special 14oz T-Bone Steak, served with fresh vegetables including turnips, carrots, potatoes, asparagus, and homemade cornbread ($30). The steak was perfectly cooked, slightly charred on the outside and juicy and flavourful on the inside.

Dayna ordered the House Made Fettucine, covered in a fresh tomato and summer vegetable sauce, topped with shaved parmesan cheese ($21). Unlike pasta dishes at many restaurant where there is more pasta than anything else, this dish was loaded with fresh toppings.

For dessert, we ordered Vista’s Silk Chocolate Cheesecake with a chocolate espresso crust, served in a white chocolate pool ($9). Extremely smooth and delicious, the white chocolate pool perfectly balances the rich chocolate flavour of the cheesecake.

We also ordered the Blueberry Gateau, a moist, layered blueberry cake with blueberry whipped cream and chocolate ice cream ($9). Light and fluffy, the combination of flavours made this dessert a delicious way to top off an excellent meal.

Perhaps the combination of being in a hotel and not on street level, Vista 18 may often be overlooked when contemplating a dinner out. The excellent food, sustainable approach, locally sourced ingredients, and amazing views of the city, should put Vista 18 at the top of your list for your next romantic meal.
