Old Spaghetti Factory review

A staple in downtown Victoria for many years has been the Old Spaghetti Factory. According to their website, all their meals are made fresh daily on the premises using only quality ingredients. Old Spaghetti Factory is known for offering great food at reasonable prices. They are also well known for the fact that their entrees come complete with a crisp green salad, sourdough bread, coffee or tea, and spumoni ice cream at no additional charge.

During a recent outing in downtown, we needed a quick lunch so decided to check them out since it had been a few years since we had last been there. It was a gorgeous sunny day so we chose to sit outside on their patio.

I decided to go with the Clubhouse Sandwich and Fries ($8.75) and my wife chose the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and Fries ($8.75). First up was the sourdough bread with both whipped butter and garlic butter. The bread was still warm and fresh very tasty. We could have easily had a second loaf that was offered, but didn’t want to ruin our appetites for the main course. Next up was the green salad that comes with your choice of standard dressings. It was good, but nothing out of the ordinary – it looked and tasted like those salad bags you get at your grocery store. It had just the right amount of salad dressing and wasn’t drenched in it.

Soon after our main courses arrived. Again, the Clubhouse Sandwich was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. It could have used a little less mayo though. The bread was fresh, and the fries were crispy and lightly salted. I thought the fries were actually some of the better fries I’ve had recently. My wife’s Philly Cheesesteak sandwich came with a huge bright red tomato in the middle of it. If you like over ripe tomatoes, then you would have loved this, but we both thought it was a little too ripe. It was also cut extremely thick, far too much for a sandwich.

The best part was the Spumoni Ice Cream. So good in fact we both devoured ours before realizing we had forgotten to take photos. All in all it was a good meal at a reasonable price. You get a lot of food for the money, and we walked away with some leftovers. The service was fast and friendly, and the patio is great on a warm summer day. If you’re looking for an affordable, family friendly restaurant, we recommend you check out the Old Spaghetti Factory.
