There are a number of popular breakfast spots in Victoria, and one of them is Floyd’s Diner. It is a funky all-day breakfast spot that delivers on good food and friendly service.  It is kind of hard to miss as the building is painted bright pink, and those that probably don’t know where Floyd’s is can tell you where the pink building downtown is. Floyd’s is known for it’s large servings to help cure those Saturday night hangovers! The walls are filled with photos of staff and pop-art, and the servers are

I am a big fan of the classic breakfast meal – eggs and meats. One of my favourite dishes at Floyd’s is the “Double Your Pleasure” ($9.95) which comes with two eggs, two strips of bacon, two slices of ham, pan-fries, and toast.  I can’t remember if this is always the case, but this time around I only got one slice of bacon – typically when you go out for breakfast you get at least two pieces. But that one piece was just crispy enough for my liking. The pan-fries are a popular choice as well, and a mix between hash browns and chips.  The ham was a little chewy, and the multigrain toast was just right.  Like I’ve mentioned, the servings are big at Floyd’s, so make sure you come with an appetite. A full serving can easily serve as a leftover meal for lunch or dinner if you opt to take it home.  If you’re a light eater, I would definitely recommend the half order of anything on the menu.

There are some fun and interesting items on the menu, with equally interesting names to go along with them. There is the “Listen to me when I’m talkin’ to ya son” and the “The Elton” – I let you guess what’s in that one. Then there is the infamous “Mahoney”. You get whatever the kitchen decides to make for you (yes, you have no say in it), and to make it just a little more interesting, they’ll flip you for it. You win the toss, the meal is free. You lose, and you pay double.

Here’s a tip – they have a “Floyd’s Frequent Flyer” card. You can get one at the register after paying, and after ten meals there, your eleventh is free. We’re almost half way to our free meal! Floyd’s is recommended for a casual, fun, and large breakfast/brunch meal.  Be prepared to wait for a table, the lines can be long. They do serve coffee while you wait, to make the line a little more tolerable.
