If you’re looking for one of those neighbourhood style pubs where you’ll feel like you’re at home, 1550’s may be the place for you. With an extensive menu that could satisfy even the pickiest eaters, the fact that this restaurant has been around since 1994 is usually a good sign that they must be doing something right.
We went to 1550’s on a Wednesday night, which is well known as their wings night (and they serve up an extensive list of flavoured chicken wings), but on this night we chose to sample some of their other menu items. I don’t usually order pasta when eating out, but I decided to try something a little different and order the Honey Garlic Pasta ($11.50). The serving size was more than adequate, and was actually left with leftovers for lunch the next day. The sauce was VERY tasty and sweet, something I’m not used to when eating pasta, but was very surprised at how much I liked it. The one down side for me though was the sun dried tomatoes, there were simply too many in the dish for my tastes, but if you love them then this is the dish for you.
Worth an honourable mention is the fantastic service. We have been frequenting 1550’s for many years and the service has been consistently good. The server we had was very engaging, friendly, and had a great sense of humour which made us feel comfortable and well looked after. Even more importantly, the food arrived hot and within a reasonable amount of time!
We think this pub serves good quality food in a friendly atmosphere for reasonable prices, and would recommend it to all our readers. Have you been to 1550’s? Did you have a good meal there?
